Oooohhhh.... Turbo!

So I just got off the phone with a very nice service rep from Time Warner Cable named Dawn. Originally I called to remove some features from my account because I just lost my roommate and doubt that they're going to be used any more. I explained to her what was going on and she said "Let me see if I can save you some money." To which I responded "sure, thanks!" She came back with a quote that was about $30 less than I had been previously been paying. Half of that was the removal of HBO. I mentioned that I had been thinking about upgrading to RoadRunner Turbo (10mBit). She offered to check and see if the advertised speeds were actually being achieved in my neck of the woods. She said that they were, but at times they may be slower due to network congestion. This was the answer I was expecting.

I gave her the go-ahead and she began to click and type away. At the same time I was running back to back tests at speedtest.net. Within moments the download speed went from 5974 kb/s to 9896 kb/s and the upload went from 489 kb/s to 974 kb/s. Sweet! Oh yeah, and she cut the cost from $54.95 to $39.95.

 Thanks, Dawn. You rock!

Whew! I'm back!

FUEL logoIt's been too long since my last post. I've been busy with work and future career opportunities. Church has kept me busy. I'm the leader of the tech ministry for FUEL. FUEL is a group of Christian 20-somethings. We meet at Mariners in Irvine.

Oh, I almost forgot... last week I finished building my new computer. I won't go into all the nerdy details, but it's an Intel Core 2 Duo and it's water cooled by the Zalman Reserator 1. It works like a champ and stays around 30° C. That's all for now. I promise I won't wait so long to post again.

Out to lunch

Today was my day off and a good buddy of mine was about fifteen minutes away interviewing for a job. We decided to get some lunch and catch up. Our restaurant of choice:  Mimi's Cafe in Anaheim. The place wasn't very busy, but it's a Monday after all. Gina would be our server. She was a very nice lady with a good sense of humor. Like any good server, she checked on us every few minutes to see if we were ready to order. On her third visit, we still hadn't looked at the menus. At this point, some might have gotten impatient with us, but not her. She had a light hearted way of suggesting we alert her when we're ready.

When we finally ordered, our food arrived in what seemed about 5 minutes. It was delicious! Every time Gina visited, she seemed truly interested. When she left, she had us laughing. We both had a great time and went home smiling. Gina, you may never read this, but just in case... Thank you!
